Doug Silvey, born in 1959 in Hillsboro, Oregon, reflects on his upbringing in Tualatin, a small, rural town that has since transformed significantly. He was the youngest of seven siblings in a family deeply rooted in the community. His father, Vince Silvey, co-founded the Sylvey Lumber Company and later worked as a tax assessor. Doug shares vivid memories of the town’s early days, including the dog food factory, the crawfish festival, and the close-knit nature of the community. He recalls the simplicity of life, dirt roads, volunteer firefighters, and the camaraderie among neighbors. Doug also discusses the founding of Suburban Door Company, a successful family business where he worked for over 20 years.

Doug’s recollections span local businesses, agriculture, school experiences, and community events. He fondly remembers playing basketball, caddying at the golf course, and participating in school sports. He speaks warmly of influential teachers and coaches, and the impact of growing up in a supportive environment. Now involved with the local historical society, Doug expresses a deep appreciation for preserving Tualatin’s heritage and is committed to sharing its stories with future generations.
